Wet Rot

Wet rot is basically timber decaying naturally in the presence of high levels of moisture. In most properties, there is almost always a structural defect causing the wet rot. It may be that the wall adjacent to the timber is suffering from damp, or water from a variety of sources is collecting on the timber.  it can also be caused by something as simple as failing to dry an area properly after regular water use. Wet rot only occurs in wood that is always, or nearly always, wet or damp.

As with dry rot, wet rot can damage the structural integrity of a building. It occurs more frequently than dry rot, but it’s not as serious a condition: it does not spread through masonry. A higher level of moisture is also required for the condition to take hold and flourish. Removing the cause of the excessive moisture will stop wet rot in its tracks. As with dry rot, poor ventilation contributes to the problem.

If you suspect you may have wet rot in your property please contact Alliance for a Survey and thereafter estimate.

Please feel free to browse our Gallery which shows projects undertaken by Alliance where areas affected with wet rot have been treated.
